Planes land in the three airports surrounding our city, and, one at a time, students cross the gates of our campus. Shops are open again, public transport is once more reliable, Welcome Week events unfold as they do every year: the elements are unmistakable, summer is over. The warm weather of the Milanese heath wave will take some time to fade, but a new academic semester at Bocconi University is about to start. The timetable has appeared on everyone’s yoU@B app, and many of us still must overcome some exams in these hot days of early September. To all of you, I wish the best of luck. So many new students are coming to Bocconi, following our footsteps on this incredible academic journey. To you as well, I wish the best of luck. As the new year begins, and we all unite once again between our two symbolic lions, the time has come for me to wrap the 112th issue of Tra i Leoni.
Lion’s Legends has been a constant presence in the summer of all of us in the writing, social media and website teams: we worked from June to September to create the amazing issue that you have seen appear your screens throughout the weeks. Finally, I can state that I’m extremely proud of the finished result, and I believe everyone that took part in it can say the same thing. All the pieces that were published offered a unique and insightful window inside the life of an iconic character, and inside the mind of the writer that chose them to portray something that mattered to them. Every Legend left behind much more than the sum of their actions in life: their legacy is measured not in the material effects, but in the symbolic importance that they had for people like us, that look up to them for inspiration. Thus, only the fact that they were chosen into this list by one of Tra i Leoni’s writers is a testimony to their greatness. Now that our issue is all over, everyone involved in this project and every reader should ask themselves what they learnt about Legends, about humanity and its limits, and how they can be overcome. Maybe this time around, everyone will be able to answer the faithful question that inspired this project in the first place: what is a Legend?
And now what? Do you still want more to read? Don’t worry, Tra i Leoni is not going anywhere. Our next semester will be as extraordinary as can you hope, filled with amazing projects that I look forward to and cannot wait to see unfold. The editorial board will have new faces, the team will welcome new exciting members, as with every recruiting season, and the results of change will hopefully be clearly visible. But one thing will never change: Tra i Leoni’s commitment to our University, to providing a service to the student body as the official newspaper, will never waver, and will be renewed in strength in the coming months. The future is legendary and bright for all of us , so let’s walk together once more to achieve great things.
