As Bocconi University’s Official Students Newspaper, Tra i Leoni is given a fascinating duty within the walls of our campus. What we do, or at least what we aim to do, is telling the story unfolding Velodromo, Sarfatti 25 and all the other magnificent buildings we inhabit during the academic year, as well as those shaping the world beyond it. Whether they are in the form of Art pieces, news from the four corners of the world or simply Aula Magna’s events, we ultimately deal in stories. This summer, while the scorching sun is taking away all our will to continue, we intend to take on this same task, at a grander level: our team has spent some time looking around the present and the past, in search of the most extraordinary stories they could find. The result of this quest is the 112th Issue of our newspaper: Lions’ Legends.
What is a legend? Since the dawn of time, some human beings have been capable of becoming much more than they were supposed to be, transcending their own predetermined paths and shattering the constraints which the world had put on them. In those spaces between the known and the unknown, between what no one dares to try and what everyone fears, these extraordinary individuals build their story and their legacy: they build their legend. The tales survive their mortal creators, as all great epics do, because legends have something in them that is much more universal than their origin could suggest. Why would we be interested in the destiny of some Greek hero or in the fate of a princess in distress off the coast of Ireland? Isn’t it incredible that to this day we can learn and appreciate the value of a story that unfolded or was conceived thousands of years ago? Legends do not speak to our rational part; they reach far beyond, in the natural and ancestral side of our soul. When we find a true legend, someone that we will never forget, we are brough back to our wild and forgotten origins, and a new fire lights in the dark savannah: what we found is a new place to stay for the night and a new story to tell to our loved ones, while we comfort ourselves in the dangerous plains where the lions forever hunt.
I am sitting here, looking at the list of legends that we will cover in the next months, and I couldn’t be prouder of my first issue as Editorial Director of TiL. This amazing team has rounded up an incredible collection of characters from all over the world, from the past and the present. Every single one of them tells a story worth remembering, and a lesson worth being preserved. That’s how we can learn, by looking at our fellow humans in their struggles and extracting some knowledge from their successes and mistakes. Every week, new legends will be told on our website by our skilled writers, with our unmistakable style and passion. By the end of summer, you will get to know some new stories, some that might strike you as unforgettable as much as they struck one of us lions. So, if you are eager to know what lies behind this curtain, stay tuned for some time while we present to you the 112th Issue of Tra i Leoni newspaper: Lions’ Legends.
